A rout in New York and McDavid's record
Edmonton crushed the New York Islanders 4-0 in an away game of the NHL regular season, reports Life.ru. One of the goals past Russian goaltender Ilya Sorokin was scored by Vasily Podkolzin — in the 30th minute, on an assist from Leon Draisaitl. It was his ninth goal of the current season: among Russians by this metric he trails only Kirill Kaprizov of Minnesota, who has 14 goals.
Heroes of the game and goaltending stats
The star of the match was Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who scored two goals in the second period — it was on his second goal that Edmonton captain Connor McDavid recorded another assist and extended his record streak of games with an assist from the start of the season to 14. Jason Dickinson sealed the final score with an empty-net goal in the 58th minute. Sorokin made 20 saves, while Oilers goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped all 18 shots he faced and recorded a shutout for the second game in a row.
35 points in a month and the standings
By the end of October, McDavid had tallied 35 points — eight goals and 27 assists. As the outlet notes, the last player to surpass the 35-point mark in a single calendar month was Mario Lemieux in the 1992/93 season. After the win, Edmonton, with 22 points in 14 games, leads the Pacific Division; the Islanders, with 16 points, sit fourth in the Metropolitan Division. The Oilers' next opponent will be the New York Rangers, while the Islanders will face Carolina. That same day, Pavel Buchnevich scored a goal and helped St. Louis beat Detroit 5-4 in an away game of the regular season.
