Turnover grew, but the trade balance remained negative
In January–September 2026 Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $65.4 billion — $3.9 billion, or 6.3%, more than in the same period last year. Kun.uz cites these figures with reference to the reporting period. Exports over the nine months reached $25.8 billion, while imports amounted to $39.6 billion, leaving the trade balance negative with a gap of $13.7 billion.
Exports excluding gold grow against an overall decline
A telling detail in the statistics: despite the decline in overall exports, merchandise exports excluding gold grew by 31.6% to $13.3 billion. This means the drop in the aggregate figure is linked to the non-monetary component — primarily gold supplies, whose volume is not disclosed in the report. Over the nine months, Uzbekistan traded with more than 200 countries.
Who the main partners are
The largest share of foreign trade turnover went to China — 23.2%. It is followed by Russia (16%), Kazakhstan (6.5%), Turkey (3.4%) and Afghanistan (2.4%). Thus, two countries — China and Russia — account for almost 40% of the entire turnover, highlighting the high concentration of Uzbekistan's trade ties.
