The key facts
- 48 arrests at the demonstration outside the US Embassy in London
- A rally in support of Palestine Action was also held outside the US Consulate in Edinburgh
- On 4 November the Supreme Court will hear the appeal against the ban on the organization
Arrests in London and a rally in Edinburgh
British police detained 48 people on Saturday during a demonstration in London in support of Palestine Action, which has been listed as a banned terrorist organization since June 2025, Sky News reports, citing data from the Metropolitan Police (based on Anadolu material). More than 100 participants gathered outside the US Embassy in the Nine Elms area; according to police, most of those detained were arrested for 'expressing support for a proscribed organization.' Another rally took place outside the US Consulate near Holyrood in Edinburgh.
Legal context
The organizer of the rallies, the group Defend Our Juries, said participants would hold signs reading 'I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action.' Police had warned in advance that taking part in the demonstrations, including displaying placards, could lead to arrest: expressing support for the group is an offence under the Terrorism Act following its ban in June 2025.
Legal battle over the legality of the ban
The rallies took place on the eve of an appeal at the Supreme Court over the ban on the organization, scheduled for 4 November. As Anadolu notes, the High Court in February found the ban 'disproportionate,' but the Court of Appeal ruled in June that the listing of Palestine Action was lawful. A spokesperson for the UK Home Office said the Court of Appeal had established that the organization committed acts of terrorism, glorified those involved in them and promoted violence; according to the spokesperson, the ban does not affect lawful protests in support of the Palestinian cause.
