The only herd in the country and the heat problem

According to the zoo, its ten imported alpacas form the only alpaca herd in Pakistan, giving visitors a rare chance to see South American animals up close. On October 25, children and adults petted and fed the animals; several young alpacas in white, brown and dark coats drew particular attention. Delivering the animals to Islamabad was complicated by the capital's hot climate: alpacas come from cooler highland regions of South America and are better adapted to low temperatures. Multi Zoo General Manager Muhammad Yunas saidthat the alpacas arrived in the summer, so staff installed air coolers around the enclosure to protect the animals from the heat.
