CSKA confidently beat Lokomotiv in the Russian Cup

Moscow's CSKA defeated capital rivals Lokomotiv 3:1 in a group-stage match of the RPL Path of the Russian Cup, reports Gazeta.Ru. Danila Kozlov opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and in the 17th minute Joao Victor doubled CSKA's lead. Late in the first half, Alexander Kovalenko reduced the deficit, and in the 66th minute Lokomotiv defender Georgi Dzhikiya scored an own goal, finally settling the outcome of the match.

The standings situation in Group D

After this match, CSKA sits second in Group D with eight points, while Rostov leads with 12 points and Togliatti's Akron is third with seven points. Lokomotiv, with three points, is at the bottom of the group. For Lokomotiv, the defeat means that ahead of the final round the team remains in last place and depends on the results of other matches. In the final round on November 24, CSKA will play away against Akron (kickoff at 17:00 Moscow time), while Lokomotiv will face Rostov the same day. Thus, the fate of the spots advancing from the group will be decided in head-to-head games between the leaders and the outsiders: Rostov has already mathematically secured first place, but the final picture of CSKA's second position may change depending on the result of its match against Akron. The outlet also notes that earlier Vladislav Radimov advised Lokomotiv to take antibiotics — a comment made against the backdrop of the team's unsuccessful run.
