The firewood season has opened in Chimon

With the arrival of cold weather, the firewood trading season has begun in the village of Chimon, Fergana region. A Kun.uz correspondent visited the bazaar of the Konchilar mahalla, which operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and interviewed sellers and buyers of fuel. Traders note that demand grows as the weather gets colder, and they plan to sell firewood until spring: in summer they stockpile wood from old, poorly fruiting fruit trees in their own orchards, and in winter they bring it to markets — in their home village on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and to bazaars in other villages on the remaining days.

Prices and winter supplies

According to one of the sellers, apricot firewood known as «Labo» is currently sold for 800 thousand to 1.2 million soums depending on its condition, while a «ZiL» load costs up to 2.8 million soums. He also gave a rough estimate of consumption: a family can get through the winter with a minimum of three «Labo» loads of firewood and about two tons of coal. Buyers are also preparing in advance. Adham ota Abbasov, a resident of the neighboring village of Qorgontepa, came to the bazaar to check prices and said that he has his own orchard, but in case of a harsh winter he stocks up on 1.5 tons of coal and two «Labo» loads of firewood — enough fuel to keep two stoves going all winter. At the entrance to the Konchilar bazaar, the entrepreneur Tohir aka Xolmatov, together with his son, sells stoves. The figures cited are estimates from the traders and buyers themselves, not official statistics on fuel prices.
