Heavy rains and landslides hit the resort island
Floods and landslides have occurred on the popular Thai resort island of Phuket due to heavy rains. According to the Bangkok Post, as cited by Zamon.uz,, up to 142.8 millimetres of precipitation fell on the island over the past 24 hours. The most difficult situation developed in the Patong area: on the night of October 26, water, mud and rocks came down from the mountain slopes, damaging houses, shops and cars. In the Nanai area near Patong beach, roads and residential premises were filled with rocks and debris.
The authorities' response and assessment for tourists
Local authorities began clearing the affected areas and assisting residents; a temporary shelter has been set up in Patong. The Nation reported flooding in the lower levels of some hotels and buildings, but the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) stated that the hotels had suffered no serious damage and that there was no information about any Russian tourists being affected; no requests to relocate tourists had been received at that time. According to ATOR, the water level in some parts of the island has already receded, and emergency services and utility workers are clearing the streets of mud, rocks and debris. The Thai Meteorological Department warned that heavy rains in the south of the country may continue until Wednesday.
