The key facts

  • The pension payment date depends on the delivery method and the regional schedule, and is not chosen by the pensioner
  • When receiving funds on a Mir card, the bank credits the money on the day it arrives from the Social Fund or no later than the next day
  • If a pensioner does not collect the money for six months, the payment is suspended — an application is required to resume it

Why neighbors may receive their pensions on different days

Even pensioners living next door to each other may receive their pensions on different days: the payment date depends on the delivery method and the payment schedule in a particular region. RIA Novosti was told this by Ekaterina Stenyakina, First Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues. According to her, a pensioner can only choose the method of receiving the money — they cannot set a specific payment date for themselves.

How the different delivery methods work

If a pension is credited to a Mir card, the crediting date is determined by the payment schedule of the regional branch of the Social Fund and the servicing bank. The bank transfers the money on the day it arrives from the Social Fund, but no later than the next day. When receiving a pension through a Russian Post office, the pensioner is assigned a specific date from which they can come for the money: the payout period usually lasts about three weeks and may vary by region. A pension can also be delivered by a postman — for this, an application must be submitted; in that case, the visit date is set according to the postal schedule.

What happens if the pension is not collected

A pension not collected via post can be picked up in subsequent months, but if a person does not receive the money for six months, the payment is suspended. To resume it, an application must be submitted.

Additionally: the 2027 indexation

Along with the explanation of payment dates, Life.ru recalls the planned indexation: in 2027, insurance pensions will increase in two stages — by 6.8% from February 1 and by 3.3% from April 1, with the second increase calculated taking the February raise into account. The indexation will affect 37.5 million Russians, and the specific amount of the increase will depend on the size of each recipient's pension.
