Meeting with medical workers ahead of their professional holiday
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with workers of the medical and pharmaceutical sectors, congratulating them on the upcoming professional holiday and thanking them for their work. “For a person to see the happiness of their family, work honestly, achieve their dreams and live a meaningful life, good health is, above all, essential. That is why we have defined the preservation of human health as one of the most important directions of our reforms,” Zamon.uz quotes the president as saying.
Ten years in review: hospital beds and growth in service volume
The meeting presented the results of the sector’s development over the past decade: new polyclinics and hospitals serving 10 million people have been commissioned, and 58,000 hospital beds have been created. According to the outlet, thanks to the growing number of modern hospitals and the expansion of the private sector, the volume of medical services has tripled.
Complex operations now performed locally
It was separately noted that more than a hundred types of medical services previously performed only abroad are now available in Uzbekistan. These include treatment of congenital heart defects, organ transplantation, robotic surgery and complex brain operations. The president emphasized that the knowledge and skill of medical workers play an important role in these achievements.
Digitalization and pharmaceuticals
The topic of digitalizing medicine was also raised: the process covers private clinics and pharmacies as well. In the near future, the system is planned to be supplemented with artificial intelligence capabilities to assist doctors and nurses — this is a stated goal, not an already implemented solution.
Goal: 70% locally produced medicines
In the pharmaceutical sector, the goal has been set to cover 70 percent of the country’s needs through local production. In recent years, 330 new production facilities worth $1 billion have been commissioned. In addition, the Tashkent BioPharm City cluster and pharmaceutical free economic zones have been established in the Andijan, Namangan, Jizzakh and Tashkent regions, where projects with a total value of $1.2 billion are being implemented.
