Military court verdict

The Second Western District Military Court has sentenced 54-year-old Russian entrepreneur Sergei Mazur, a native of Vinnytsia region, to 25 years in prison. He was convicted in a case of attempted terrorist act and preparation of an attempt on the life of an official in Kursk region; the court's press service told TASS about the verdict (according to Gazeta.Ru).

The investigation's version

According to the investigation, in 2024 Mazur, on assignment from the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, collected and transmitted information about military and civilian facilities. In 2025 he was offered to carry out a terrorist act and an attempt on an official's life in Kursk region. The accused, the investigation claims, agreed, but was unable to complete the crime — he was detained.

What was imposed in addition to the prison term

The court ordered not only imprisonment: Mazur will spend the first seven years in prison and the remaining 18 years in a strict-regime colony. In addition, a fine of 1.6 million rubles and restriction of freedom for 1.5 years were imposed, the court specified. Thus, the punishment is structured in stages — from imprisonment to the colony and subsequent restriction of freedom after serving the main term.

Context of other cases

In the same report, Gazeta.Ru mentioned two other verdicts handed down earlier and unrelated to Mazur's case: on October 22 three residents of Zaporizhzhia region were convicted for attempting to blow up a gas distribution station in Berdiansk — according to the investigation, the defendants joined a sabotage group created in Ukraine in 2022. It was also reported that a Russian journalist was sent to a penal colony for calls to bomb Moscow.
