Verdict in the Shirin murder case
A verdict has been handed down in the city of Shirin, Syrdarya region, against a woman accused of murdering the legal wife of her de facto husband and one of her daughters. This was reported by Gazeta.uz, citing the «Millar» program on the «Milliy» TV channel. The incident took place in April 2026 in the Amir Temur mahalla: during a conflict, a 29-year-old woman stabbed the legal wife of her de facto (shariat) husband and her two underage daughters. As a result, the woman and her 5-year-old daughter died, while the 3-year-old girl was hospitalized. According to relatives of the deceased, she also left behind an 8-year-old son and a 20-day-old infant.
Motive and the defendant's position
According to Alisher Ergashev, chairman of the Shirin city criminal court, the dispute between the parties arose over the issue of childbearing. The woman had lived with the man in a de facto marriage for six years and, according to the court, constantly quarreled with him because children kept being born in her husband's legal family, while she was not allowed to have children. At the court hearing, the defendant stated: «I was in a state of affect, I closed my eyes and I don't understand what I did».
Qualification and sentence
The court found the woman guilty under Part 2 of Article 97 of the Criminal Code (intentional murder with aggravating circumstances) and under the relevant paragraphs of Part 2 of Article 97 in combination with Article 25 of the Criminal Code (attempted intentional murder). Applying Article 57 of the Criminal Code (imposition of a more lenient punishment than provided by law) and partially cumulating the sentences under Article 59 of the Criminal Code (sentencing for the commission of several crimes), the court sentenced her to 13 years and 4 months of imprisonment to be served in a general-regime colony.
Why this matters
The case shows how a protracted intra-family conflict, which, according to the court, lasted six years, ended in the deaths of two people, including a 5-year-old child, and left two more children orphaned — an 8-year-old boy and a 20-day-old infant. For residents of the region, it touches on the issue of the safety of children and women in family conflicts. In practical terms, the court's decision means a long real prison term for the defendant; at the same time, since the report relies on a single source and data from a TV program, details of the case, including a possible appeal of the verdict, remain unknown for now.
