Overtime in Minnesota
The Cleveland Cavaliers ended the Minnesota Timberwolves' perfect start to the season, winning 127:125 in overtime despite Anthony Edwards' 47 points, AFP reports. Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points, James Harden added 19, and the Cavaliers improved to 2-1.
How the game unfolded
The Timberwolves, winners of their first three games, led for most of the evening and pulled ahead by 15 points in the first half. Edwards, who was added to the lineup only late due to a right knee injury, scored 11 points in the first quarter alone. Cleveland tied the game in the third quarter, then came back again after trailing by seven in the fourth. Harden's floater with 10 seconds left tied it, and Edwards' blocked drive with four seconds remaining sent the teams to overtime at 113:113. A minute before the end of the extra period, Edwards hit a three-pointer that required a video review to tie the game again, but Mitchell regained the lead for Cleveland with a mid-range shot. After Jonathan Kuminga missed from the line with 30 seconds left, the Cavaliers pulled away: Harden made two free throws, Edwards' final shot bounced off the rim, and Peyton Watson sealed the game with two free throws. 'A hard-fought win, especially early in the season,' said Harden, who also added 4 rebounds and 9 assists.
