Apple Pay launches in Uzbekistan
On the morning of October 27, 2026, the Apple Pay service became available in Uzbekistan, as announced by the head of the Presidential Administration, Saida Mirziyoyeva. At this point, no official statements have been published by Apple or the republic's Central Bank. The system's launch is taking place in test mode, which may cause technical difficulties for some users when trying to add a card.
Supported banks and cards
For now, the service works only with cards of the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard. National Uzcard and HUMO cards cannot yet be added to the wallet, although at the end of July the Central Bank reported that work was underway on integrating these systems. At the time of launch, Apple Pay supports cards from eight banks: Uzum, Orient Finans Bank, the National Bank of Uzbekistan, Kapitalbank, Hamkorbank, Ipak Yuli Bank, TBC Bank, and Octobank. The availability of a specific card depends on the issuing bank and its type.
Technical requirements and setup process
To use the service, you need an iPhone with a current version of iOS, a configured Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode, and a signed-in Apple ID. A card can be added through the Wallet app by selecting the appropriate option and scanning the card with the camera or entering the details manually. It is also possible to link a card through bank apps, if they offer an add-to-Apple Wallet feature. Payment is made by double-pressing the side button and confirming with biometrics or a passcode at a terminal that accepts contactless payments.
The Google Pay situation and limitations
In parallel with the Apple Pay launch, the Google Pay service has started working in the country for Android smartphone users. Since the system is in a testing phase, users may find that they cannot add a card even if all requirements are met. If problems occur, it is recommended to check for updates to the banking app and the iOS version, and to contact the bank's support service, as the service's operation may vary depending on the financial institution.
