Ukraine's parliament extended martial law
On October 26, 2026, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the extension of martial law and general mobilization in the country for another 90 days. The relevant bills were submitted to parliament by President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the broadcast of the plenary session, the extension of martial law was supported by 293 people's deputies, and the extension of general mobilization by 281 deputies. Another 280 deputies voted to have the bills signed by the speaker of parliament and submitted to the president, Zamon.uz reports.
New validity period of the regime
According to the adopted decision, martial law and general mobilization are extended from October 31, 2026 to January 29, 2027. Earlier, in July 2026, parliament extended these measures from August 2 to October 31. Martial law and general mobilization were introduced on February 24, 2022, the day Russia launched its full-scale invasion, and have been regularly extended ever since.
The president's position and the significance of the decision
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in previous remarks that martial law in the country will not be lifted until security guarantees are ensured. The latest extension means that the current restrictions and mobilization procedures will remain in place at least until the end of January 2027, and given the regularity of extensions since 2022, parliament will apparently have to consider a similar issue again in the future. For Ukrainian citizens, this decision directly determines the duration of the mobilization requirements and the regime currently in force in the country.
