The key facts
- The first stage of construction of the DataVolt data center at IT Park Uzbekistan is being completed; the first phase will have a capacity of 12 MW, with a long-term plan of up to 500 MW
- The investment volume in the project is $200 million; completion of the first phase is planned by the end of 2026
- Investors putting more than $100 million into data centers may qualify for a special tax regime and access to affordable electricity in Karakalpakstan
Construction progress and project parameters
In Uzbekistan, the first stage of construction of DataVolt's 'green' data center on the territory of IT Park Uzbekistan is being completed. This was announced by Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov after a meeting with DataVolt CEO Rajit Nanda, as reported by Daryo.uz. The center's capacity will be 12 MW, with plans to later increase it to 500 MW. According to the minister, the investment volume in the project is $200 million.
Timeline and goals of the project
At the meeting, the parties discussed the progress of construction, the launch timeline for the data center, and preparations for the opening ceremony. Completion of the first phase is planned by the end of 2026. The data center will provide computing capacity and data processing services: the project is intended to help meet domestic demand for such services, as well as expand opportunities for exporting digital services and computing capacity to foreign markets. Cooperation with international technology companies and attracting cloud services and high-performance computing infrastructure to Uzbekistan were also discussed.
Power supply and the investors' position
The construction uses modern power supply and liquid cooling systems; the project envisions the use of 'green' energy and improved energy efficiency. Muhammad Abunayyan, chairman of Vision Invest Group and a member of DataVolt's board of directors, noted that Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia are the only countries that possess both renewable energy sources and green hydrogen. 'Today there are two countries that have green energy and green hydrogen. That is exactly why we can truly make Uzbekistan 100% green around the clock,' he said. According to him, the President of Uzbekistan pays attention to developing the energy sector and round-the-clock management of renewable energy distribution, and the new project provides for 24/7 electricity supply, which is important for data centers that require a stable power supply and high reliability of the energy system.
Benefits for large investors
Sherzod Shermatov also reported that investors planning to invest more than $100 million in data centers may qualify for a special tax regime and access to electricity at affordable prices in Karakalpakstan, according to him. He said Uzbekistan is ready to provide support for such investment projects. For readers, this means that large data center projects receive not only tax preferences but also guaranteed power supply — a key factor for an industry where, as Abunayyan noted, the stability of electricity supply is critical. The exact schedule for launching subsequent phases and the details of capacity distribution between domestic demand and exports remain unknown for now.
