How the standings changed after the short program
Life.ru previously reported on Chikmaryova and Yanchenkov's victory in the short program of the Saint Petersburg stage: the representatives of Perm Krai scored 79.43 points then and led Mishina and Galliamov by just 0.49 points. The fate of the podium was to be decided by the free skates — in the end, the short program leaders lost by 1.25 points in the combined total.
The winners' experience
The 25-year-old Mishina and 27-year-old Galliamov have previously stood on the Olympic podium twice: at the 2022 Games in Beijing they received bronze medals in the pairs event and in the team competition.
The significance of the result
The 1.25-point margin in the combined total shows how tight the battle for gold was: after the short program the gap between the two leading pairs was only 0.49 points, and the free skate turned the standings upside down. For Chikmaryova and Yanchenkov, silver at the home Grand Prix stage confirms their level after winning the short program, while for Mishina and Galliamov it is a victory of the season at a stage of the series. In practical terms, the result distributed the Grand Prix points between the pairs and determined the final podium of the Saint Petersburg stage.
