Case opened over inscription on memorial in Berezniki

A criminal case has been opened in Perm Krai after a monument to participants of the special military operation was desecrated. According to Life.ru, citing the regional Investigative Committee directorate, the case concerns an offensive inscription that appeared on the stele of a monument erected in honor of SVO participants in the city of Berezniki. The case is being investigated under the elements of a crime provided for by Article 243.4 of the Criminal Code — desecration of monuments and other memorial structures commemorating those who died defending the Fatherland or its interests.

Bastrykin demanded a personal report

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin took an interest in the situation. According to Life.ru, he ordered the head of the regional investigative directorate, Denis Golovkin, to personally report on the progress of the criminal case and to provide information on the circumstances of the incident that have been established.

A similar incident in Ugleuralsky

This is not the first such case in the region: earlier, Life.ru reported damage to the grave of an SVO participant in the settlement of Ugleuralsky in Perm Krai. The incident became known on October 2 after messages appeared on social media — unknown individuals damaged the monument and flags installed at the serviceman's grave. Over that fact, the Investigative Committee opened a case under Article 244 of the Criminal Code on desecration of burial sites; agency staff examined the grave, began questioning witnesses and searching for those involved, and Bastrykin also demanded a report on the progress and results of the investigation.
