Rockfall on the highway in Uzun district

On the night of October 24, in the Uzun district of Surkhandarya region, rocks slid onto a highway. According to the regional khokimiyat, the incident occurred at around 03:30 on a section of road 75V040 between the 21st and 22nd kilometers. Employees of the district emergency situations department, staff of the state road maintenance institution, and special equipment were dispatched to the scene. As a result of prompt operations by 07:30 the road was completely cleared of rocks, the outlet Daryo.uz reported, citing the regional administration.

Consequences and restoration of traffic

No casualties or vehicle damage were reported. The roadway is now fully open and traffic has been restored. Responsible services urged drivers to be careful when traveling through mountainous areas and to strictly observe road signs and safety requirements. The editorial team notes that the incident ended without casualties thanks to the rapid response of the services: the road closure lasted about four hours — from 03:30 to 07:30 — which speaks to the coordinated work of the region's emergency and road services. It was previously reported that nearly six thousand violations were identified in road construction in Uzbekistan over nine months, however, a direct link between this incident and the state of the road infrastructure is not confirmed in the publications.
