The key facts

  • The Traitors (James Acaster, Maja Jama, King Kenny) killed Ross Kemp by boring him into yawning
  • During the shields mission Acaster did not remove his blindfold and did not sabotage — Maja and Kenny were left unhappy
  • No money was earned: Maja and Kenny, in a panic, failed to remove a single piece at the last chance

A murder 'in plain sight' ended the drawn-out mission

In the seventh episode of The Celebrity Traitors (season two, BBC/Studio Lambert), the Traitors' mission stretched over several days — 'a murder in plain sight of everyone' — came to an end. The reluctant Traitor James Acaster bored the faithful Ross Kemp into yawning, and the paranoid EastEnders star was 'murdered'. Upon learning his fate, Kemp quoted Polonius from Hamlet: 'To thine own self be true. And I was.'

Breakfast and conspiracy theories

At breakfast, the Faithful discussed who might have been murdered overnight. Romesh Ranganathan admitted he would not cope if Jerry were gone. Jerry Hall charmingly arrived late and asked: 'Has Ross gone?' Later she told Miranda Hart that she suspected James Blunt — because, in her words, 'his face is redder than a fox's backside in gooseberry season'. Sharon Rooney, who called herself 'Poundland Poirot', put forward a theory about a perfume bottle as the murder weapon.

The shields mission: sabotage to the sound of a bell

The players assembled shields from 3D pieces buried in sawdust; at the sound of a bell everyone put on blindfolds, while the Traitors could remove theirs and sabotage others' shields. Jerry noted that the Traitors' lair 'smells like a cat litter tray', and Miranda described the smell as 'a mix of salmon, cheap cologne and crotch'. Acaster did not dare remove his blindfold and left other players' shields untouched, leaving all the work and risk to Maja Jama and King Kenny. 'He didn't even lift the blindfold — I'm in shock,' said Maja. Acaster, who completed his shield and earned protection, foresaw 'a roasting in the turret', but remarked: 'I did kill Grant Mitchell, after all.' Shields were also assembled by James Blunt, Joanne McNally and Michael Sheen, but no money was earned: Maja and Kenny, in a panic, failed to remove a single piece at the last chance. Romesh, incidentally, was helped by hay fever: Sharon heard his constant sniffing and realised he was not a Traitor.

The round table: Jerry Hall banished

The round table was the most chaotic of the season. Accusations flew at Leanne Pinnock, Bash Croft, Joanne and Jerry. Jerry, who had survived the night murder, was banished — in Joanne's version, as a 'professional stirrer' who 'sowed more seeds than a farmers' market'. Romesh grimly joked that he had long suspected her of preferring his comedy partner Rob Beckett. As she left, Jerry threw out: 'I told you so!' After her banishment, suspicion shifted to Leanne, whose bright red leather gloves she herself had called 'treacherous and villainous'.

In the turret: 'You threw us under the bus!'

Just as Acaster had predicted, in the turret Maja and Kenny told him off: 'You left us to fend for ourselves!' However, he partially redeemed himself by declaring that he had finally 'acquired a taste for villainy': 'When I killed Ross Kemp in plain sight of everyone, I enjoyed it!' New episodes are released on Thursdays and Fridays on iPlayer; banished and murdered celebrities share their impressions on the show Uncloaked.
