MEP's statement on attacks on Ukraine
MEP from the European People's Party (EPP) Pekka Toveri said that Russia has 'dropped all rules' and that 'everything' in Ukraine is now a target for Moscow. According to him, strikes increasingly hit residential areas as well as cultural and government buildings. Toveri warned that the attacks could leave large parts of Kyiv 'uninhabitable' during the winter period.
Assessment of the military situation
Toveri, a former Finnish general, believes that Russia's main military weakness at the moment is the ground campaign: in his view, Moscow has failed to 'conquer practically anything' during the war.
Calls to the European Union
Toveri called on the European Union to maintain support for Ukraine, stop purchasing Russian gas and tighten sanctions against Moscow.
