Abu Dhabi: M42 launches AI platform Ossi to free up doctors' time for patients

Abu Dhabi-based medical company M42 unveiled the AI platform Ossi at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, created in partnership with Microsoft. The key facts

  • M42 launched the AI platform Ossi in partnership with Microsoft at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit
  • According to the company's estimate, doctors will be able to spend up to 60% more time with patients; an oncologist's preparation for a consultation will shrink from 3–4 hours to 10–15 minutes
  • The platform runs on four agents, understands Arabic and English, and is available at seven centres in the UAE and Bahrain

Launch at the future health summit

Abu Dhabi-based tech-driven medical company M42 presented Ossi — an AI platform designed to automate administrative tasks and increase doctors' time for communicating with patients. The announcement was made at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit. The platform was created in partnership with Microsoft and, in the words of Karim Shahin, CEO of Digital Health Solutions Platform and Group Director of Digital at M42, it is 'an AI platform built by people from Abu Dhabi and for them.' According to the company's estimate, Ossi will help doctors spend up to 60% more time with patients.

Four AI agents at every stage of the consultation

Ossi combines AI agents, speech recognition and healthcare-specialised large language models, supporting the doctor before, during and after the consultation. The Patient Summary agent prepares a summary of the patient's medical history before the appointment, including medications, laboratory and radiology results. During the consultation, the Scribing Agent listens to the conversation and converts it into a structured clinical note for the doctor to review. The Chat Agent answers questions about the patient's medical information and helps determine best practice based on evidence and clinical guidelines. The Coding Agent analyses documentation and suggests medical codes. All four agents work together, keeping the doctor at the centre of clinical decision-making.

A complement to medical records, not a replacement

According to Shahin, Ossi is designed to work alongside electronic medical records (EMR), not instead of them: the system is integrated into the doctor's workflow without interrupting the EMR. He gave an example: an oncologist usually spends three to four hours studying a patient's file before a visit, but with Ossi this time is reduced to 10–15 minutes thanks to a ready-made summary. The platform's name refers to the ossicles of the middle ear, which amplify sound. The system recognises Arabic and English, and work is underway with international partners to add Greek and other languages.

Plans for global scaling and data security

Ossi is a cloud-based solution, and implementation has already begun across M42's network of centres. The company expects, through the partnership with Microsoft, to host the platform on the Azure cloud and bring it to the global market. At the same time, M42's government medical platforms are hosted on the UAE sovereign cloud to protect medical data; security measures have been aligned with the UAE Cybersecurity Council. Shahin emphasised that the final decision in any case remains with the doctor, and Ossi is merely a tool for saving time and reducing the risk of missing details.

Where the platform is available

Ossi is already operating at seven M42 centres in the UAE and Bahrain: Amana UAE, Amana Bahrain, Healthpoint, HealthPlus, Mubadala Health Dubai, Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Hospital and the Imperial College London Diabetes and Endocrine Centre in Abu Dhabi.
