The key facts

  • Sheremetyevo is operating in a special mode: flights — in coordination with the relevant authorities
  • Earlier, Vnukovo airport introduced similar restrictions
  • Rosaviatsia admits schedule adjustments; earlier in Moscow hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled amid a drone attack

Sheremetyevo switched to a special mode

Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport began coordinating the acceptance and dispatch of aircraft with the relevant authorities. As the press service of Rosaviatsia reported on its Telegram channel, the restrictions are related to the temporary restriction on the use of airspace in the area of the airport. The agency noted that adjustments to the flight schedule are possible, and the measures were taken to ensure flight safety.

Vnukovo introduced similar measures earlier

Shortly before the reports about Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo airport also began coordinating the acceptance and dispatch of aircraft with the relevant authorities. Earlier, amid a drone attack, hundreds of flights in Moscow were delayed or canceled.

Passenger rights in case of flight delays

When restrictions are introduced, flights are often delayed or canceled. In case of a delay, passengers are advised to clarify the reasons and the estimated departure time at the check-in desk or at the airport information service. Depending on the length of the wait, the airline is obliged to provide drinks and meals, and if the next flight is only the next day — to provide a hotel room and transfer. These obligations are set out in the Air Code of the Russian Federation and international carriage regulations.
