Separate statement about the eastern region

In a separate statement, al-Maliki said that coalition forces had intercepted and destroyed another drone flying toward the eastern region.

Context of the conflict

The incidents come amid an escalation of the confrontation between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi movement, which launches missiles and drones at the kingdom, while the coalition carries out airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has led a coalition in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government since 2015. The Houthis have controlled the capital Sanaa and a number of provinces since 2014.
