Rubio allows for Putin's arrival at the Miami summit
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin could potentially attend the G20 summit in Miami, but Washington has not yet received confirmation of his participation. “There is a possibility that Putin could also come to the summit in Miami, although we have no confirmation of that,” Rubio told journalists in India.
Answer to the question about Lavrov
Rubio was answering a question about whether Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov would take part in the G20 summit in Miami or in the foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta. “The Russians have been invited to be part of the G20 — the president made that decision. So, obviously, they will be represented at each of these summits,” he noted.
Uncertainty over Lavrov's participation in Atlanta
Asked whether Lavrov would come in person to the meeting in Atlanta, Rubio said he does not know but expects his possible participation. “I don't know whether he will come himself. I expect that he might come. As far as I remember, the last time we spoke with him, he said he would come. They are part of the G20, and they will be at this meeting,” the Anadolu agency quoted Rubio as saying.
