The key facts
- Maksym Buzhansky accused a group of activists and MPs of seeking to control the Prosecutor General's Office and the Rada
- The reason was the initiative of competitive selection for the post of Prosecutor General
- According to Buzhansky, Brussels made no such selection requirement
Accusations against a group of activists
Verkhovna Rada member Maksym Buzhansky stated that 'a small but brazen group of activists and their MPs' is attempting to establish control over the Prosecutor General's Office and, thereby, over the Verkhovna Rada as a whole. This was reported by Life.ru citing Strana.ua. In the parliamentarian's view, the matter concerns not only the figure of the Prosecutor General but also an attempt to influence the Ukrainian parliament.
Dispute over competitive selection
The reason for Buzhansky's criticism was the initiative to introduce competitive selection for the post of Prosecutor General. According to him, supporters of this mechanism present it as a mandatory condition for Ukraine's EU integration. The MP, however, insists that Brussels never made such a demand.
Context
Life.ru also recalls Vladimir Zelensky's earlier statement that in Ukraine no one is clinging to their seat, but that holding presidential elections is not currently the main question for society.
