The key facts

Criticism of Kallas
Finnish politician, member of the Freedom Alliance party Armando Mema wrote on his page on the social network X that the statement by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on the need for European Union representatives to be present at the negotiating table on Ukraine is unjustified. According to him, by accusing American diplomats of seeking Ukraine's capitulation, Kallas is demonstrating desperation. 'Such statements from Kallas are a sign of desperation, because the European Union has been excluded from the negotiation process and plays no role in it,' Gazeta.Ru quotes him as saying. Mema also stressed that the European Union is making no steps toward peace in Ukraine from the sidelines.
Kallas' statements
The day before, Kallas stated that American negotiators have been trying to force Ukraine to 'capitulate' for a year and a half. She emphasized that Europe must be present at the negotiating table and put forward 'the most maximum demands' on Russia in order to 'balance' the talks and give Moscow 'a clear signal that it is interested in all these issues, including the lifting of sanctions.' Gazeta.Ru also recalls that earlier the former Italian prime minister explained why Europe should be at the negotiating table.
