The key facts
- From October 21 to 24, routes in the parks Nalychevo, Yuzhno-Kamchatsky, Vilyuchinsky and Bystrinsky are closed
- The reason is a cyclone with heavy rain and storm winds
- Klyuchevskoy Park is closed for the winter period, not because of the weather
Restrictions due to the cyclone
In Kamchatka, from October 21 to 24 inclusive, visits to four popular nature parks were restricted. According to a post on the Telegram channel of the network of nature parks 'Volcanoes of Kamchatka', the reason was an approaching cyclone which, according to forecasts, will bring heavy rain and storm winds to the peninsula.
Which parks are affected
The temporary ban applies to tourist routes in the parks Nalychevo, Yuzhno-Kamchatsky, Vilyuchinsky and Bystrinsky. Travellers will have to abandon planned hikes in these areas at least until October 25.
Reasons for the safety measures
The restrictions were introduced for the safety of tourists: heavy precipitation and gusty winds can significantly complicate movement along mountain trails, especially in open areas and on volcano slopes.
Closure of Klyuchevskoy Park
In addition, the Klyuchevskoy nature park is already closed to visitors. In its case, the restrictions are not related to the weather but to the end of the tourist season — the park has suspended receiving guests for the winter period.
Context: seismic activity
It was previously reported that seismologists recorded 11 noticeable earthquakes in Kamchatka and off its coast over the past week. According to the Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory, residents of settlements in the region felt two of the tremors.
