The key facts
- The B-21's wingspan is estimated at roughly 46.3 meters based on a satellite image dated June 20, 2026
- This is approximately 12% less than the B-2 Spirit, according to the calculation
- The figures are not official Northrop Grumman specifications
Estimating the size from a satellite image
Since the first unveiling of the stealth bomber B-21 Raider, various figures about its dimensions, in particular its wingspan, have circulated. According to Kun.uz, in some materials prepared by aviation enthusiasts or created with the help of artificial intelligence, this figure was given as less than 39 meters.
Calculation methodology
For the new estimate, a satellite image of Edwards Air Force Base in California, taken on June 20, 2026 and recently published in Google Earth, was used. The aircraft's dimensions were calculated using the platform's distance measurement tools.
Results and comparison with the B-2
According to the outlet's calculation, the B-21's wingspan is approximately 46.3 meters. Thus, by this measure the new bomber is roughly 12% smaller than its predecessor, the B-2 Spirit; the difference in length is also about the same magnitude. The outlet emphasizes that these figures are an estimate based on a satellite image and do not represent the manufacturer's officially stated technical specifications.
Why a smaller size does not mean fewer capabilities
The fact that the B-21 is smaller than the B-2 was anticipated in advance. According to the report, Northrop Grumman, in creating the new aircraft, paid particular attention to flight range, reduced operating costs, and low radar visibility, whereas carrying maximum combat load was not the main priority. Therefore, the outlet notes, the B-21's small size is not sufficient to assess its capabilities solely through external comparison with the B-2: the new aircraft was designed with different requirements and missions in mind.
