US Secretary of State arrived in Samarkand
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Uzbekistan. At the Samarkand international airport he was greeted by the head of the presidential administration of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, US Special Envoy Sergio Gor and Ambassador Jonathan Henick, Kun.uz reports.
First visit to the region
Saida Mirziyoyeva welcomed the head of American diplomacy on her Telegram channel and noted that this is his first visit to Central Asia. “I am glad to welcome US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the ancient and young Samarkand land,” she wrote.
Visit program
According to Mirziyoyeva, Rubio has important talks in the C5+1 format ahead, meetings with business representatives, as well as another meeting of the US–Uzbekistan business and investment council. On October 19, the Secretary of State will take part in a meeting of foreign ministers of Central Asian countries in Samarkand.
