An environmental photography contest dedicated to nature and the relationship between humans and the environment has determined its winners. Among this year’s prize-winning works are images about animal rescue, the night life of the forest, and renewable energy. This was reported by Kun.uz.
Alain Schroeder’s Victory
Belgian documentary photographer Alain Schroeder received the award for the best photo story in the ‘Rescuing Orangutans’ category. The photographs were taken on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and show the process of helping orangutans affected by the loss of their natural habitat, conflicts with humans, and illegal wildlife trade. The series depicts the stages of emergency assistance, veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, and preparation of the animals for return to the wild, as well as the work of conservation specialists.
Other Categories
In the ‘Wildlife — Air’ category, the winning image was Jan Pokluda’s shot of a red-breasted thrush and its chick: the bird is captured at the moment of returning with food to the chick in the hollow of an old oak tree. The hollow was located noticeably lower than usual, which allowed the photographer to capture the scene from an unusual angle. In the ‘Carpathian Basin’ category, Imre Potó’s work was recognized — a night forest shot with a 108-second long exposure; against the moonlit forest, glowing traces of moths in flight are visible.
