Win with help from the bench
Fenerbahce beat Alanyaspor 3-0 in a home match of the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday. Romelu Lukaku scored his first goal for the Istanbul club, while two more goals came from substitutes Kerem Akturkoglu and Vedat Muriqi.
First half and disallowed goals
In the 16th minute Fenerbahce were awarded a penalty after a foul by Fatih Aksoy on Levent Mercan. Paulo Victor saved Mason Greenwood's spot kick, and Irfan Can Kahveci put the rebound into the net, but after a VAR review the goal was disallowed — Kahveci had entered the penalty area too early. In the 40th minute Lukaku finished a low cross from Mercan with a close-range strike at the far post. In the second half Kahveci had two more goals ruled out: in the 47th minute VAR spotted a foul by N'Golo Kante in the build-up to the goal, and another strike three minutes later was disallowed for offside.
Goals from the substitutes and the standings
Around the 70th minute Akturkoglu, who had come on for Greenwood, extended the hosts' lead with a low shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box. In the 87th minute Muriqi finished off the attack: Akturkoglu, with his first touch, redirected a low cross from another substitute, Archie Brown, to his teammate, who scored from close range. The win took Fenerbahce to 16 points after eight matches, with Alanyaspor remaining on 12. On Tuesday Fenerbahce will host Slavia in the UEFA Champions League, and then, according to Anadolu, will play away against arch-rivals Galatasaray in a Super Lig derby on Monday.
