London Zoo breeds critically endangered frog species from Ghana in captivity for the first time
London Zoo has achieved the world's first captive breeding of the critically endangered Afia Birago's puddle frog: 15 froglets measuring about 5 mm have hatched. Twenty adult frogs were brought from Ghana in September 2025 to develop breeding techniques and share the experience with Ghanaian colleagues. The species lives only in two water bodies in the Atewa Forest Reserve, which are threatened by mining.
