Ophthalmologist warns of deadly danger of lime to the eyes
Ophthalmologist Ilya Kustov told Gazeta.Ru that slaked lime, herbicides or fertilizers getting into the eye cause a dangerous alkali burn. Alkali dissolves cell membranes and penetrates deep, damaging the iris and lens. Rinsing the eye with clean water for at least 15–20 minutes and urgent hospitalization can save the eye.
