Scientists create protein gel that restores tooth enamel
Researchers at the University of Nottingham have developed a coating made of elastin-like proteins that mimics the enamel growth matrix. In laboratory tests on human teeth, a mineralized layer up to 10 micrometers thick was obtained, resistant to acid and mechanical stress. The work was published in Nature Communications.
