In Malaysia, devotees walked barefoot over hot coals as part of the Nine Emperor Gods Festival
On Saturday evening in Kuala Pilah (Malaysia), a fire-walking ritual took place at the Si Tian Gong temple in honour of the nine-day Taoist Nine Emperor Gods Festival. According to the temple committee chairman, the rite brings luck, health and success in business for the year ahead. The festival is celebrated by Chinese communities across Southeast Asia, who observe a strict vegetarian diet.
