All seven candidates for UN secretary-general received a 'veto' in informal Security Council poll
In the fifth round of the informal Security Council straw poll, all seven candidates for UN secretary-general received at least one 'discourage' vote from a permanent member of the Council — effectively a veto. Front-runner Rebeca Grynspan of Costa Rica again leads, but received five 'discouraging' votes, including two from permanent members. According to US media, Washington does not support any of the seven candidates.
