Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Ankara on the first-ever bilateral visit by a Canadian prime minister to Turkey. He and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the elevation of relations to a strategic partnership, signed three documents — on defence, aviation and energy — and agreed to launch negotiations on a free trade agreement by the end of 2026, aiming to raise trade turnover from $3 billion to $10 billion.
