Family of prison officer Brian Stack, killed by the IRA, receives official apology from Ireland
Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin formally apologized in parliament on Wednesday to the family of Brian Stack — chief officer of Portlaoise Prison, killed by the IRA in Dublin in 1983. The apology was made for serious failures in three police investigations: the loss of evidence, including a map of the crime scene and a motorcycle helmet, and incomplete witness interviews. No one has been held accountable for the killing.
