Auroras of maximum intensity observed over Russia amid a magnetic storm
On the evening of October 31, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported auroras of the highest category — 10 out of 10 — over Russian territory. The phenomenon accompanies a magnetic storm that began on the night of October 30 to 31. Scientists had earlier forecast a G1–G2 storm lasting 12–15 hours, and on October 29 a prominence about 500 thousand kilometers long was recorded on the Sun.
