Parents Abandoned Their Sons, Aged 13 and 16, in the Mountains of South Tyrol: Teenagers Rescued at Night Near a Closed Refuge
A family from Germany set out on a hike from Dobbiaco, but the parents turned back, leaving their sons to continue alone. The teenagers planned to spend the night at the Bonnerhütte refuge, but it had closed for the season a week earlier. Around one in the morning, an emergency call came in: the brothers, dressed inadequately for the weather, had become severely hypothermic at an altitude of more than 2,300 meters. Mountain rescuers evacuated them to a hospital, from which they have already been discharged.
