Shop owners in France defended their stores from masked looters during the riots
On Saturday, in a number of French cities, traders tried to protect their shops from gangs of looters in black masks amid violence spreading through city centres. Footage shows owners pleading with attackers to leave the shops and attempting to hold their premises, yet stores were attacked, looted and damaged.
