No glaciers left in the Allgäu Alps
The Schwarzmilzferner in the Allgäu Alps has lost its glacier status after a hot summer: over the warm months it lost about 4 meters of thickness and roughly half of its volume. Glaciologist Christoph Mayer reported that the ice no longer moves, and of the former 27 hectares only about 1 hectare remains. According to the scientist, the Eastern Alps will be completely free of ice between 2060 and 2070.
