Timur Turlov elected FIDE president: school chess and a development programme for 2027–2030
38-year-old Timur Turlov was elected the eighth president of FIDE on 26 September 2026 at the General Assembly in Samarkand, receiving 110 votes to Vadim Rosenstein's 85 in the second round. His platform emphasises chess in schools, digital transformation and the financial sustainability of federations. In parallel, the 2026 World School Team Championship cycle is under way — a joint project of FIDE and ISCF whose continental stages were won by teams from Uzbekistan, Uganda, Peru and Belarus.
