UAE Resident Diagnosed with Arthritis Only 10 Years After First Pain Complaints
Afnan Shanavas from the UAE began complaining of pain at 16, but doctors attributed her symptoms to stress and referred her to a psychologist. The diagnosis — inflammatory polyarthropathy and ankylosing spondylitis — was made only at 26, after a positive ANA test and worsening of her condition after pregnancy. Doctors note that arthritis can occur at any age.
