China accused the US Navy ship USS Charleston of entering waters near the disputed Spratly Islands
China said that a US Navy combat ship, USS Charleston, entered waters near Sabina Shoal (Xianbin Jiao) in the Nansha (Spratly) archipelago early on Tuesday without Beijing's permission. The command of the PLA Southern Theater Command said it dispatched forces to escort and monitor the vessel and demanded that the US stop such operations. The Spratlys are claimed wholly or partly by China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.
