Met Opera Stages Two World Premieres in Four Days Despite Financial Troubles
The New York Met presented two world premieres it had commissioned within four days: 'The Mothers of Kherson' in Warsaw and Missy Mazzoli's 'Lincoln in the Bardo' in New York. General manager Peter Gelb calls the bold policy the only way out of financial troubles: the opera house faces declining attendance, losses, and a collapsed deal with the Saudi Music Commission. In parallel, a giveaway of 70,000 tickets with Mayor Mamdani and a $1.5 billion fundraising campaign have been launched.
