France admires shopkeepers who stood up to rioters
After the riots in France, in which hundreds of police officers and firefighters were injured and around 2,400 people were detained, waves of public support were sparked by stories of shop owners and residents who defended their stores. A video of a Micromania employee in Nice and a distraught phone shop owner in Paris went viral; a fundraiser for the latter raised more than €88,000.
