Ministry of Agriculture explains onion price rise in Surkhandarya region
The ministry reported that in 2026 about 1.5 million tons of onions were harvested in the country — 35% more than needed — and that the shortage in Surkhandarya region is due to seasonality: the local harvest of late varieties is small, and onions are brought in from Jizzakh and Samarkand regions, which, taking logistics into account, results in a retail price of 4,000–4,500 soums per kilogram.
