Netherlands tops global pension index 2026: European systems among the best, but sustainability in question
According to the 2026 Marsh CFA Institute Global Pension Index (MCGPI), the Netherlands has been named the world's best pension system for the fourth year in a row (85.8 points), followed by Denmark and Iceland. The index covered 55 systems accounting for 66% of the world's population. Several major European systems, including France, Spain, Italy and Austria, show high benefits but weak long-term sustainability.
