Sadyr Japarov threatens Gazprom with nationalization of Kyrgyzstan's gas network
Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov stated that if Gazprom fails to fulfill its gasification obligations, the republic may return the gas system to state control, citing the precedent of the Kumtor gold mine conflict with Centerra Gold. The system was sold to the Russian company in 2013 for a symbolic one dollar, and the agreement is valid until approximately 2039.
